Writer of illustrated tall tales about misfits, mischief, and accidental American history.
The (mostly) true story
Kit specializes in character-driven satirical historical fiction. His ability to blend humor with history and narrative depth is part of what makes his writing unique.
He believes a great novel should make you laugh on the same page it makes you ache, and that the right illustration on the right page can do things prose alone can't pull off. The result: full-length illustrated novels for grown-up readers who never stopped looking at the pictures.
When he's not writing silly stories
The Detroit River keeps a lot of secrets. Kit just goes in and asks them politely.
It's the kind of project that's "almost finished" the way most basement projects are almost finished. Kit's not in any hurry.
Mimi and Luna have a long-standing policy of acknowledging Kit only at meal times. He has accepted this.
Kit lives on the South Shore of the Detroit River with his partner Dana and their two crazy cats, Mimi and Luna.
Get in touch
Kit reads every note. He answers (almost) all of them.
